You may have heard this more and more. You may be hearing that people who take Viagra are at a higher risk for contracting an STD. However, is this determination based on fact or fiction?
Examination of Data
Men who took erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra were found out to be more likely to contract a sexually transmitted disease. The top of the list is AIDS, which of course is one STD usually caught by a person who does not use a condom.
However, this does not automatically make these men more susceptible to getting a sexually transmitted disease. Further examination of results suggests that the risky behavior came before using the Viagra.
Of course, the risky behavior could have also come even while using the Viagra. In fact, quotes from experts confirm exactly that. Case after case seemed to prove that using erectile dysfunction drugs often works hand in hand with higher-risk sexual behavior.
As far as defining “high-risk” this usually refers to unprotected sex and/or the number of sexual encounters a person has. It also could include both unprotected sex and number of sexual encounters.
Other Issues
The use of prescription medications such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra helps men who are over 40 become more sexually active. Furthermore, it is men ages 57 to 85 who suffer from different severities of erectile dysfunction.
This age group (or men approximately within this age group) is less likely to use a condom. The main reason why is because they often have less of a risk of getting a woman pregnant especially if her partner is within the same senior age bracket.
However, men who use Viagra or another ED drug cannot forget about being protected against sexually transmitted diseases. If they do they will get AIDS, herpes, genital warts, HPV, or another disease just like anyone else would.
Of course, it is not just the senior man’s responsibility. It would also be the responsibility of his partner to be assertive as far as in using a condom for sexual activity.
Of course, staying with the same partner also is advised. A man (or woman) who has multiple partners is more likely to get an STD than one who does not.
This is a fact irrespective of Viagra or other ED drug use. People need to be very careful and to use discretion or they can suffer some serious consequences.
