You probably have heard all the jokes about Viagra and even the statements made about it that it will make you blind. In very rare cases blindness can occur in Viagra users.
Even in some of these cases the cause of the blindness-whether temporary or permanent-is not necessarily the Viagra. It often is a result of mixing Viagra with other drugs or it could even be a coincidence that someone goes blind.
What happens more commonly with Viagra users is that they experience a less serious vision problem. For instance, they might not be able to see clearly-as if everything is foggy or blurry.
They may become at least slightly color blind. For example, they may not be able to tell the difference between blue and green.
Another major problem with Viagra users is increased light sensitivity. This is a situation which often is described as a “pain in the eyes.” It can also lead to headaches, which you already know is a common problem in users of this ED drug.
More Info
Using Viagra has often been associated with a certain type of blindness, and this condition is known as NAION (nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy). This is a condition that leads to sudden vision loss in individuals and it occurs in either one or both eyes.
Risk Factors
Patients taking Viagra are at greater risk for becoming blind when they are 50 years of age or older. They also are more susceptible for blindness if they have diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
They also may be more likely to become blind they have high cholesterol or if they are a smoker. However, again these conditions are often independent of whether or not a man uses Viagra.
Emergency Advice
If you notice any loss of vision in one or both eyes you should contact a health provider immediately. Medical treatment may be necessary in this case and it should be sought immediately.
Do not let yourself go even one hour or one day without being checked out by a doctor. The reason why is there is a chance that the blindness could become permanent if not already if you do not.
Additional Treatment Warnings
You should only take Viagra if your doctor prescribes it for you. It should also not be taken recreationally and you need to be careful not to overdose. All of these conditions could lead to the possibility of increased risk of side effects, including blindness.
